Today is International Peace Day.

This flame has burned continuously in the Hiroshima Peace Park in Japan since 1964 when its construction was finished. The building you can see through the archway is the only structure left standing in the blast zone after the US dropped the A-bomb on August 6, 1945. It was directly under the explosion, like being in the eye of a hurricane. The rest of this extensive area has been turned into a public park and the building has been preserved as it was…
